Category: Let's talk
I figured that eventulally the entire blind comunity is going to be hear so I'm wondering how did you find the zone. For me, it was people at school and camp, well practically everywhere I go where there's blind people they talk about it. So I decided to sign up.
My girlfriend told me about it. She told me about the games like blackjuck and high low and i decided to try it.
I recommend and instruct people who are blind in assistive technology at a rehabilitation center. One of our consumers told me about the site. I've been hooked ever since. I've used it as a tool to teach people how to navigate a website, becuase it is fun, and so straightforward.
Lou
Wow using the site as a teaching tool, fun. did anybody sign up because of it?
and there are tuns of headings and links, and filling out forms.
Well I found The Zone through my friend Kay from School and college (she's Blairwitch on here BTW.)
I found the zone out of stupidity.
One day while surfing the net I was looking for blogs by blind people. I found the "blindness community" on livejournal, which I had never heard of, so I decided to join that community.
To join a community, you have to have a live journal account, so I wound up with an account on live journal. So, looking at the comments on the blindness community someone refered to the zone, and I said "hey that sounds neat" and went over there (here) to look around, liked it and signed up that evening.
You have to realize that I am usually reluctant to sign up for anything on the internet, but in that one night I had a diary (livejournal) and a whole bunch of new friends.
Bob
mmm, I think, that the smartest comment seen here, was posted by blbobby. *sighs* if I could, I'd give you points for that one!
Back in 2003 I was really into accessible games and was searching for some on google.com and that's how I came across this site and have been here ever since.
Troy
Thanks Maddog. I'll take my points however I can get them.
In answer to the question, I've had one person sign up. It's been kinda fun, because I've been watching what this person does and e-mailing the individual privately when they make mistakes. Makes great materials for each lesson. I'm a cruel man, because I can take something fun and social and make a lesson out of it.
Lou
LOL Lou, that is cruel. LOL
I found out about the zone from a user of another blind oriented site I used to visit. BTW, I never visit this other site anymore. It is way too boring in comparison to the zone.
Started out at Hot Braille Spring of 2003
E2E Autumn 2003 and beyond
The ZoneBBS Autumn 2004 and beyond
That's dedication to be a member of a site for a long time
A friend I made on For The people mentioned the Zone to me; I signed up and, after over a year of membership, decided to donate.
I learned about it from a discussion I was reading on Eyes2Eyes and was curious to go and see what it was all about. After a few days, I decided to sign up for it, and I've been coming on here since then. *smile* I still do go on Eyes2Eyes, but just not as often, although that site does have it's good points as well. I guess both of these sites do, but that's off the subject, so yeah, let's just say I "overheard" a discussion on there and came here from that. *smile*
dixie girl told me about it when a bunch of us blindies were out for lunch. I tried to sign up in like, March or april of 2004 or something like that, but It confused me and I didn't get the whole, waiting to be varified thing.
And then last september, I randomly thought about it again, and tried to sign up, and I am now your beloved Cala.
...it is good at times when ones are given to think as it were in a "random way." *smile to Cala
I found the zone threw a group I was on for blind people on yahoo so decided to try it out.
My friend Alison told me about the site, and I'd seen it on www.whitestick.co.uk also.
Hmm, one of my best friends (he goes on here as Tyr these days) mentioned it to me, and was shocked that I wasn't on it. He convinced me to get an account, and I've been around here ever since.
I heard about the Zone from a friend, Motifated, when he was teaching me some things on the computer. He happened to mention that there was a place for blind folks that had games and other stuff. I checked it out and here I am. I have found myself addicted to the word games and am learning how to post and hopefully I'll get better at it. Have patience, please. Hope to be here for quite a while. Donna (djmom)
If I am considering correctly, it was Caitlin here who gave "public announcement" as it were at E2E telling of The Zone, of its existence....
I saw it referred to on Liams MSN screen name, Lol!
Actually Grace, I think it was Jessica (blindvi) on E2E who mentioned it. I could be wrong, and maybe it was mentioned by more than one person.
So buckeye fan, I remember Caitlin and you remember BlindVi as giving recommendation to The Zone... Yes, others did as well, like wonderwoman and others yet too, only I personally remember Cailtin as being the first, at least the first that I personally recall..
well, i was on a mailing list for chat programs, and someone asked about hot braille. Someone told her there was a better site than hot braille, and being the curious person i am, i signed up.
wonderwoman
I heard about the Zone through a friend of mine.
I heard about the Zone through a friend of mine, (The Wrath of Fire), you may or may not know him. I've been a proud member for quite sometime now. I had alot of fun times on here minus the countless bad times, in which some I've caused for many that were quite pointless, I admit. That led to me being banned for a week, lord I won't make that mistake again.
I found the Zone through my friend, who used to love it. Since then, I come on almost everyday! I would be crazy not to recomend this site to other blindies like myself.
Well, I found out about the zone in January of 2005. I was at my evaluation at lwsb, and I was in the homework/computer/study room, whatever you want to call it, grin. Well, I kept hearing the sounds of blingo coming from the headphones of the guy sitting next to me, and it sounded to me like lingo, which is a game show that I really love. So, finally, after, I guess, about a week and a half, I asked him what he was playing because it sounded like lingo, and he introduced me to the zone. I've been on here ever since. And I made a friend too.
Jen
My Friend Krista AKA kitten introduced me to this cite. I love it. I've made a few friends here witch is really good.
I found about it at summer camp at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI.)
I think I ended up coming on here when I was looking for another way to chat with people, and accessible chat had gone down, and I think freedom chat either hadn't come to be yet, or it was already getting on my nerves. I asked one of my x's friends about it, and he recommended it to me, so I signed up for it.
At that point there was so little trafic on the site though, that I didn't stick around long. I used to be on hotbraille before they shut it down, and thought it was a shame they had to do that.
well, my friend suzy asked me to sign up, as her friend carly found the site and said it was good.
knowing me, i'll try anything once i registered here, and have loved it ever since
Well, when I was in England I met t wo people who already were members here, and one of them introduced me to this site. That was almost two years ago now.
If my memory serves me correctly, my ex introduced me to the zone, and well, it was aultimatly our down fall. One of them anyway :p
Hmmm let's see, the way I came to the zone was a little interesting actually. I decided to surf the net one day, and I really wanted to find some more accessible games to play since I'm a big gamer. Well, needless to say there is a website out there, and no it's not audiogames.net before you all start assuming. anyway, there was a website out there that listed a whole bunch of companies and their games. So as of that point on, some time in march or april of last year or so, I have been an active member.
Ha. Almost two years for me. Yay. Lol
I was chatting on Aim with my friend Megan (anglwings303 on here) when she sent me the link of a site she liked and thought I might enjoy too. She was right: I signed up in May of 2004 and have been here ever since, though not as frequently these days. I've made a lot of friends here, run into folks I already knew, and still think it's really cool to meet people who you only know by their username at conventions and stuff like that.
This is interesting here. I had signed up for the zone before rc, but never did get my message because the AndreLouis.com email server, which I was using at the time, blocked it as spam. I signed up because I had wanted to here Borris's audio profile, which I'd heard once before, and didn't hear again. During the two months following, I'd forgotten about the zone, and Kerri (krisme) and Rich (rc) had been telling me about this site, Rich going so far as to invite me into conferences with...well...I'm not going there. I've reconciled with some, and i still don't like others. Anyway, Andre (Freaky Fwoof) and a few friends of his decided to sign up on January 27, 2005, which was when I retrieved my email verification. The first day I joined QN/VT was January 28, 2005, so that is my anniversary day here to me. And the rest...Oh, it's just history.
Well like Troy and others, after spending months of looking for accessible games on google.com I finally came across this site somehow. I thingk I was typing in something like play accessible hangman or anagrams and boom there it was and that's when I signed up in 2004 So that was 3 years ago.
I saw it linked in an LJ and on someone's web site, though I don't remember the specifics of either.
I found the zone after a friend told me about it. I signed up as soon as I got on the site. It's cool.
a friend told me about it, and i signed up the same day.
I found the zone through a friend.
I found the zone the way most people do I guess. My friend passed it on to me.
I found the zone through a friend also.
I go on random Googling expeditions, and I think I found this circus while on one of those. I have no idea what I might've been Googling that led me here, but through some cruel twist of fate, here I am.
With me, it was sort of a chain reaction. A friend of mine told another friend, who told me, and now I'm here and loving it. *smile*
I think most of you know Ines. We used to go to the same school and used to live in the same apartment. And one day she told me about the zone and said I could register if I would like, and here I am. LOL.
I found the zone through talking to freaky_fwoof one day. i'd just lost one of my best friends and he said, hey, here's a place to go if you're ever lonely. i signed up and, yep, been here under different user names ever since.
I found the Zone through a friend who used to go to school with me a long time ago. I think I've been here now for a year.
OK this is an old topic, but what the hell. Sylvia, (think her name was Not the sylvia that's retriever dog btw lollittle angel on here a while back), had it on her msn years ago, and i asked about it. signed up, and now i'm even bloody premium! grin
Me, I found out about the Zone through a couple of friends. They told me a lot about it, they told me to make an account in here, and i got a little curious about this site, so i decided to make an account. I think now, i've been a member for almost three years now.
I found the zone when I was bored at college in January or February this year. I didn't know what to type into the internet, so I wrote something along the lines of "accessible games for blind people" and it gave me a website which had a list of websites and one of those was this one. I've been here since Febr8uary now.
Wow this topic is old. I started it when I was a newby on the Zone.
hmm, how did I find the zone? a friend told me about it, and I disided to check it out. that's how I got to whare I am today. posting on bords, sending Qn's, PQN's, and all that. lol
Some dude I met on FC, told me about it.
lol, and who was it? Oh yeah, it was me! yaaaaaaaaaay! lol
Na little man, sorry. Haha!
A few of the people I've told about the zone say they've registered, but then they've got bored with it.
I know of some one that said the same thing. She says that she could not fined some one to talk to. Lol.
I found out about the zone thru Ray, the crazy Asian dude, and Bianca. Although I really haven't been affected, it sounds like it's changed some peoples' lives.
I heard of this site from Mariea. Thanks a lot Mariea. * sarcastic grin. Seriously, I'm met some really nice people on here. It has it's quirks, but for the most part...
I like it for the most part too.
My best friend Lorelei told me about the Zone.
ah that's cool.
i found out about the zone through my friend austin's angel. she told me about this site and i've been on here for a little over a year, and loving it.
That's cool.
i was on a forum site for braillenote users. one member had put a link in their profile on the forum to their zone bbs profile. so if it wasn't for user big d, i probably wouldn't be on here!
Jean, I found it from you. LOL.
this girl i was on the phone with told me about it.
Lmao Jess. I remember that, I was there too.
Well that was the first time I heard about it. I've also had SEPTEMBER-TWILIGHT, as well as Locutus tell me about it.
Then I told a few people to join (maiden of the moonlight, The Colombian Princess94, and KGB Chick94).
And now I'm Premium and a part of a Zone relationship.
aww dianna, I'm so happy about that relationship, I hope everything works out
Wow! i created this topic nearly 3 years ago, when I was farely new to the zone. Now here i am, about a billion board posts later. I think it's more like close to 10,000.
Tee hee. :D
Thanks Jess.
Hmm, how'd I find this place? Well it all started when...
lol, it's not a big huge enormously long story. My friend told me about it and I decided to sign on.
Hmmm, how did I find the place? Well, One morning, I was sitting here at my computer, minding my own business and checking emails and I got a message from windows live, letting me know that someone wanted to add me. It was Grandpa Majic. I had absolutely no idea who this could be, and to be quite honest, I was a bit freaked out. That was on december second, 2006. after we talked for a few minutes, he told me who he was. Turned out that I'd gone to school with him, but he was mu'u'u'uch older than me, so our paths didn't cross very much. He tol me that he was on this place called zoneBBS, and that I would probably really enjoy it. It took me a few days to finally decide to join. I joined and played around on the site for a day or two before losing interest. It wasn't until about mid 2008 that I cameback and really got in to the swing of things here.
I found it while looking for info on older CF technology / digital cameras on Google I won't bore anybody with the complex boolean searches I was piddling with ...
but anyway ran into this place by total accident, thought I might find something enlightening on here. I don't have many direct "connections" with other blind people, so thought especially with some boards like Crafts or Daily Living, that I might get some insight from you all as this was last spring and I had a wealth of projects to do in the yard.
Well after I spent some time data mining some of the boards, I signed up. It's been interesting, kinda fun, sometimes a pain in the ass, but all round pretty good times. Since I ventured into the use of Quicknotes a few months ago, I have felt I have gotten to know a few people a bit, as much as one can say so without direct interaction. It's quite a metropolis: a bit of a zoo, sometimes quite enlightening, and sometimes just a laugh.
But some things you all write about on the boards, such as craft or daily living, have increased the efficiency of how I've done things. Answered some questions I've had for years, increasing the efficiency in the way I've done several outdoor things in particular. It's also been nice to read posts from users using various products; more than just what the companies put forth or testimonials.
My friend Kaitlyn, "Princess Kaitlyn", told me about it. I didn't join right away, but one night when I was bored, I was like...hey, why not? So, here I am, ever since late 2007, which isn't a very long time compared to some people around here. Lol.
Someone I was dating told me about it. She used to go on here and I thought "what do I have to lose?" Now I'm hooked. I was away for a bit but I have returned to my zone home.
Zone home, really, lol. When I first came on, I was addicted for about...I don't know, a year and a half. Took a break for a month or so in mid '09, and just went on zbp to talk to people whose numbers I didn't have, and to check vm. funnily enough I only really got started talking with my current bf during my time away. I came back and now I can live without it, but I come on anywhere from once a day to every three, four, five, six days maybe, so I have a life now and don't spend it here. Yay me! lol
Oh I have more of a life as well, but this is still my zone home.
yeah, when I had just signed up, I got addicted too. :) but now I can come and go as I please. not like before, I'd be here countless hours
I think part of that is maturity. I'm older so I have more important things.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on which way you want to look at it, my level of activity on here has decreased over the last couple of months compared to what it used to be. I used to come on here at least 3 times a day, but now I come on here around once a day and even less on occasions. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not, but ah well''' it's happening anyway!
It's a cool way to spend your hours, or minutes, of bordom. Lol.
yeah.
